Reducing Food Waste

As consumers, we often do a lot of things to save money. Whether it’s turning the heat down in our homes or eating out less often, we can take measures which allow us to spend less. Food waste is another area we can save money at as well.

Quite often I have a lot of food left over after cooking a meal for my family. These leftovers are still good for around a week if they are properly stored. Using air tight containers is especially important when keeping food in the refrigerator. Relying on old containers, which do not seal properly, can reduce the time food can be kept for. Furthermore, improperly sealed containers can also absorb odors from within the refrigerator.

Another good item to have on hand to reduce food waste is a pressure canner. I have a Presto 1755 pressure canner and it works rather well. When my garden vegetables are ripe, and I can’t eat them, I simply can them. Using this technique, garden vegetables can be preserved for years.

Regardless of how you are saving money in this tight economy, food waste is an important area many of us overlook. But with grocery bills on the rise, reducing our food bills is an excellent way to free up more money for other things.

What’s the Best French Press Available Right Now?

There are a number of different French Press devices available on the market right now. In fact, there are so many that it’s impossible to name just one as the best out of all of them. However, if you are looking for an answer, I can give you one based on my own personal experience.

There is a company called Bodum that makes a French Press device called the Bodum Brazil. It is probably my favorite for two different reasons. The first reason is that it is made of plastic. You might be surprised to hear that I enjoy using a plastic French Press, but the real reason is because the material makes it very inexpensive. I really enjoy when things are inexpensive, so the Bodum Brazil is right up my alley.

The second reason that I really enjoy it is because it makes some great tasting coffee every time that I use it. It is made by a company called Bodum which is just about at the forefront of the entire French Press industry. So, I can be sure that I am getting a great tasting cup of coffee every morning.
