Growing Up with a Family Member That Has Alopecia
In my family, there is a girl named Tabitha who is about 10 years old who has alopecia. She did not know what was wrong with her until she starting to get a bit older. Tabitha’s hair started to fall out little by little, leaving patches of her head bald. Her eyebrows even started to thin away. Her natural hair color is a very pale brown, so her eyebrows now being thinned out almost look like she has none at all. Since children at her school do not know about her illness, they are continually making fun of her behind her back. She spends most of the school days playing by herself during recess and is slowly becoming friendless. One day I wanted to do something for her that would greatly change her life. I held a benefit for her. I raised $1,900. Her mother was then able to pay for her doctor visits, bills, and to keep buying more of her treatments for Tabitha. It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever done for someone.
